Paco Rabanne's new collection takes inspiration from old Hollywood and '80s disco

Paco Rabanne's Fall/Winter 2019 collection honors the legendary New York Voguing scene and David Lynch's Hollywood

Creative director Julien Dossena was inspired by the dark opulence and glamour of Lynch's masterpiece 'Mulholland Drive' for the new eveningwear-themed collection. Dossena also cites documentary films like the 2018 "Pose" and the 1990s "Paris is Burning" as references he looked at to create something that reflects freedom and personal expression.

For Dossena, the new collection features the signature chain mail that has been an important part of Paco Rabanne's heritage. Carrying forward Rabanne's use of nontraditional materials and unique linking technique, long hems are cropped shorter at the front for a modern version of the traditional heirloom gown while diamante earrings are shoulder length.

From bright purple trousers covered in sequins to cheetah, checker, and tiger prints the Paco Rabanne Fall/Winter 2019 collection is an allusion to the current revival of the legendary New York Voguing Balls and gives one the freedom to become whoever they choose.
