& Other Stories launches Summer capsule in collaboration with Sindiso Khumalo

Scandinavian retailer & Other Stories has teamed up with South African designer Sindiso Khumalo for a Summer capsule.

The limited co-lab collection comprises of 17 pieces inspired by vintage portraits of women from Africa and the African diaspora circa 1800. The bold and colourful pieces range across Sets, Suits, Swimwear, Jewelry and Dresses.

'As an African designer, what truly matters to me is designing clothing that can highlight my African heritage and history and bring it to light in a contemporary setting. I like to bring cultural elements that represent who I am into textiles. They become visual vignettes that frame our collections,' said Khumalo in a statement.

'We have so much love for Sindiso Khumalo's evocative designs and storytelling about Africa. But we also admire the brand's focus on sustainability and dedication to social equality and female empowerment. I'm sure the collection will bring a bit of happiness to women around the world and their wardrobes,' said Karolina Ekman, co-lab manager at & Other Stories.

Khumalo is known for her sustainable designs with vintage-inspired cuts, vibrant colours and prints that are inspired by her South African heritage. A joint winner of the 2020 LVMH Prize and winner of the 2020 GCFA Independent Designer Award, she first studied architecture at the University of Cape Town and then moved to London where she worked for world-renowned architect David Adjaye.

In 2014 she founded her eponymous label after graduating from Central Saint Martins with a master's degree in Textiles Futures. Her designs have been exhibited at venues such as the Smithsonian Museum of African Art in Washington, the Louisiana Museum in Denmark and the Zeitz Mocaa Museum in Cape Town.
