Oscar De La Renta To Get NYC Street Named After Him
Months after his passing the late fashion designer Oscar De La Renta is getting a New York City street named after him. Mayor Bill de Blasio made the announcement on Tuesday night at the opening of Made Fashion Week, saying the designer was a "giant of the industry" and that "no one is more deserving than him of that."
While the exact location of the street is not specified in the bill, The New York Post has indicated it to be somewhere in the Bronx at the intersection of Fordham Road and Creston Avenue.
De la Renta, who passed away in October last year, lived in New York City for over 50 years and called it home. "He will forever be ingrained in the fabric of the city," de Blasio said.
de Blasio also revealed that he'll pledge $15 million of financial aid to Made in New York, a fund dedicated to increasing NYC’s fashion industry through the support of local fashion industry and designers working in America.
