Leather luxury goods brand MCM and Japanese streetwear label BAPE have teamed up on a capsule collection.
Titled MCM x BAPE the limited collection consists of ready-to-wear for men and women as well as leather goods, apparel and accessories. All of the items are characterized by BAPE's iconic shark and camo motif and MCM's signature Visetos. The resulting collection channels the bold attitude and overly rich design language of the 1980s and new fashion statements for the modern streetwear disciple.
BAPE acronym for 'A Bathing Ape in Lukewarm Water' was founded in Japan in 1993 by designer Nigo and the title is an ironic allusion to young Japanese living at the expense of their parents. The label is very popular in Japan and is worn by celebrities. On the other hand MCM is also popular among celebrities. Founded in 1976 in Germany and named after its founder as Michael Cromer Munchen, the brand was bought out in 2005 by Sungjoo Group a South Korean retail business founded by Sung-Joo Kim, the youngest daughter of South Korean magnate Kim Soo-keon.
The MCM x BAPE collection is available now worldwide.
