Mario Testino Photographs Princess Charlotte’s Royal Christening Portraits
Acclaimed photographer Mario Testino has shot the official portraits of Princess Charlotte's christening.
Released on Thursday, July 9 the series of beautiful photos features Prince William and Kate Middleton. Taken at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, England (the same venue where William's late mother Princess Diana was baptised), on Sunday, Princess Charlotte looks angelic. In the main family portrait the two month old is surrounded by Members of the British royal family and relatives of the Duchess of Cambridge in the drawing room of Sandringham House, while other less formal ones Catherine holds Princess Charlotte while William carries Prince George outside in the gardens of Sandringham House.
An official Kensington Palace spokesman released a statement saying, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their whole family had a wonderful day on Sunday and were delighted to share the special occasion with the thousands of people who came to Sandringham. They are very happy to share these photographs and hope that everyone enjoys them as much as they do."
This isn't the first time that Testino has photographed the royal family. The renowned portrait and fashion photographer famously shot a series of images of the late Princess Diana in 1997 for Vanity Fair. In 2010 he took the official engagement portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Commenting on the "incredible" experience Testino said in a statement, "Photographing Princess Charlotte's christening was an amazing experience, What impressed me the most was the energy of the family, and of that between the Duke and Duchess. One sees how solid they are together and one gets a sense of their strong family values."
"It was incredible to be able to document four generations of the British Royal Family together - the monarch and three heirs to the throne - and very heartwarming to see the close relationship between them all," he added. "I am overwhelmed and honoured to be chosen to document this occasion and to carry on the documentation of the family that is the soul of this country, a country that has given me so much."
