French luxury house Louis Vuitton has launched an exclusive bag collection created in collaboration with Pritzker Prize-winning American-Canadian architect Frank Gehry.
The collection which was presented at Art Basel in Miami Beach this past weekend is a celebration of the architect's long standing collaboration with the maison. It comprises of 11 reinterpreted limited-edition capucines bags in a variety of sizes as well as new creations across four key themes - Architecture and Form, Material Exploration, Animals, and Twisted Box.
Some of the designs echo his most famous projects: the Capucines Mini Blossom inspired by the Fondation Louis Vuitton building in Paris, the Capucines MM Floating Fish inspired by the piscine lamps on display at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Capucines BB Analog bag, inspired by the angled facade of the IAC Building in New York City, the Capucines BB Shimmer Haze inspired by the model Gehry made for the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle and the Capucines MM Concrete Pockets features a modern 3D cement effect screen print that bears resemblance to Gehry's constructions.
The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Gehry goes back a long time from his landmark building for the Fondation Louis Vuitton on the outskirts of Paris, to having created a unique handbag design for the house in 2014 and perfume bottles with striking Murano glass stoppers for Vuitton's Les Extraits Collection fragrance line in 2021.
Priced between 10,000 euros to 33,000 euros, the Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry Handbag Collection will go on sale next year.
