Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 Show to be held in Japan

Louis Vuitton will present its 2018 Cruise Collection on Sunday, May 14th, 2017 in Japan.

The French fashion house chose the 'land of the rising sun' as a location this year after last years Rio de Janeiro. Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquiere is said to have visited Tokyo at the end of November, to scout a suitable location.

Louis Vuitton's choice for Japan is significant and based on close ties between the country and label that have existed since the end of the 19th century. In 1978, it opened its first store in Tokyo and has collaborated with Japanese artists and designers including Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Rei Kawakubo. The brand has been heavily influenced and inspired by Japan for its iconic Monogram canvas.

In recent years, cruise collections have become more and more important for large fashion houses and the choice of location is therefore significant. Louis Vuitton recently presented its cruise collections in Rio de Janeiro, Monaco and Palm Springs. Ghesquiere's Cruise 2017 collection which was held at at Rio's Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum in May 2016, was a fusion of fashion and architecture and drew upon his inspiration from Brazilian art.

The exact location of the 2018 Cruise show will be announced closer to the date.
