Lady Gaga guest-edited the latest issue of artsy magazine V for its 99th issue.
The Golden Globe-nominated 'American Horror Story: Hotel' actress pays tribute to all of her style icons with a record-breaking 16 alternative cover images dedicated to her 'Fashion Guard,' including Hedi Slimane, Karl Lagerfeld, Daphne Guinness, Isabella Blow, Alexander McQueen. Besides the fashion legends, there's an intimate photo, in which Lady Gaga poses nude with her fiance of almost a year, Taylor Kinney while another cover is that of her pet dog Asia.
Of all the covers, there are never before seen images captured by Steven Klein of Lee McQueen, better known as Alexander McQueen, and Isabella Blow before their respective deaths. They both were hugely influential to Gaga.
'All the people on my covers have healed me in some way,' she says in her inaugural editor's letter, adding:
'My coverhumans [sic] share something profound in common that I have observed in myself since I was a young child. It's an ability through our innate sadness as creatives to find a glimmer of fantasy and hope through our art.'
With the overall theme of the issue being about
'people coming together to express a passion for art and fashion, to really 'go there' to make a great statement and to change things'. Gaga brought together fashion legends Karl Lagerfeld and Hedi Slimane in a reunion that's been ten years in the making.
'For this issue I wanted nothing more than to have one story, just one, that my children and the future of fashion would remember forever,' Gaga said, of the magazine.
Slimane and Lagerfeld photographed each other, for the first time in ten years, for the issue. Slimane said,
'Karl and I had not taken photographs together for more than ten years. The last time I photographed him was on his property in Biarritz working at Dior Homme. We used to live one building apart on the Rive Gauche and, before I moved to California in 2008, we used to have really fun dinners all the time. I love Karl's wit, his sincerity and curiosity for emerging cultures, and his intuitive perception for what is about to happen.'
Lagerfeld also commented on the collaboration, saying,
'Gaga had a good idea for us to photograph each other. In a way, not seeing each other for all those years felt like five minutes when we saw each other again. That happens with true friends. My photographic style of no style is very different from his. I loved the mood on the street that night. I like Hedi's mystery and that's what I had hoped to capture here.'
All sales from the cover ($50) go to the singer's Born This Way Foundation. Preorder it now, ahead of its January 14 release, at
