Kristen Stewart is the face of Chanel's Pre-Fall 2021 campaign for its Le Chateau des Dames collection.
The actress was lensed at the Chateau de Chenonceau also known as Chateau des Dames, a 16th-century castle in central France's Loire Valley best known for its wineries and vineyards. The campaign also marks fashion photographer Juergen Teller's first for the French fashion house.
Stewart who will be playing the legendary Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic has been a long-time Chanel ambassador. Last December she was the only guest at Chanel's Metiers D'Art show, which also took place on 1 December at Chateau de Chenonceau. The new collection pays homage to its former residents, including Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici. According to Chanel creative director Virginie Viard she was inspired by the majesty and simplicity of Renaissance women.
'I was learning about who's lived here and who's loved this place, and it's shifted hands primarily between women. And I was just telling Virginie, it felt like the story was folding in on itself. The women who lived here before were really into art, and promoted a lot of creativity, and loved to be inspired and inspire other people to come create, and I was imagining who our characters were while watching the show. I'm always proud of her, but it felt very personal this time,' Stewart told WWD back in December.
