Donatella Versace chief designer of the Versace Group has spoken out about her decision to feature Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss in the brand's fall/winter 2016 ad campaign.
Shot by photographer Bruce Weber in Chicago, the family focused shoot which portrays Hadid 21, and Kloss 23, as mothers faced criticism on social media for casting models who were 'too young' to represent motherhood and not featuring many Chicago natives. Further some called it racist for focusing on racially diverse families with Hadid appearing alongside a black partner and children.
'With my collections, I've been thinking more and more about the real life of Versace, and the complexity of women's lives,' Donatella Versace said in an interview with the Telegraph. 'They run their own business, look after their family, travel, share time with friends, all often in the same day. I wanted to show the fullness of the Versace life in our campaign, and Bruce was the only photographer who could capture that mood.'
Versace also revealed a 1:31-minute long artistic short film called "Chicago is my Beat" to accompany the campaign.
