The debutantes of the Vienna Opera Ball will spakle in an extraordinary way at the 2018 Vienna Opera Ball.
For the special occasion, Swarovski has teamed up with designer duo Dolce & Gabbana to create a richly detailed and precious tiara which will be worn by the debutantes.
The inspiration behind the fairytale accessory is the richly detailed headpiece from Mozart's opera 'Le nozze di Figaro'. In particular 'Giovani lieti - fiori spargete!' ('Happy maids, scatter flowers!'), the words sung in the eighth scene of the first act, was picked up by Dolce & Gabbana and translated into a piece of jewelry with a floral design. The result is a tiara with delicate blossoms on organic curved leaves, adorned with 702 Swarovski crystals and elements made of six rose-colored enamel flowers.
'We are delighted that the 2018 Vienna Opera Ball tiara is designed by our long lasting collaborators - the incredible Dolce & Gabbana. The debutantes have been wearing a Swarovski tiara at the opening ceremony of the Opera Ball since the 1950s, and we are honored to collaborate with these fantastic designers to continue this tradition', said Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board.
'I am thankful and thrilled about the wonderful relationship between the Wiener Staatsoper and Swarovski - and I am pleased that this grows stronger from year to year,' Dominique Meyer, Director of the Vienna State Opera said in a statement. 'The beauty of this is that the thrilling fairy tale experience of the 'Opernball' becomes something very special, and not only for the debutants who have the honor of opening the ball with this unique Tiara.'
For years, Swarovski has collaborated with global fashion icons to make the tiara of the debutantes. Last year, Karl Lagerfeld was invited to design the fairytale accessory which was inspired by the famous 'Blue Danube' waltz.
The Vienna Opera Ball has a long standing tradition as the cultural highlight of the Viennese ball season and will take place on 8 February 2018.
