Cosmopolitan Features Madonna for 50th Anniversary Issue
Pop icon Madonna graces the cover of Cosmopolitan's 50th anniversary issue. The Material Girl had previously covered the mag’s 25th anniversary issue in May 1990.
Shot by legendary Ellen Von Unwerth the 56 year old entertainer poses as a Dominatrix on the cover while she also appears in a series of sultry editorial images for the magazine. In her interview with the mag she reflects on her career, sexuality and collaboration with Kanye West.
“Popularity comes and goes. You need to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you’re here.” she says speaking on the longevity in her career.
With her 13th studio album "Rebel Heart" released early last month she shared some details on what it was like working with outspoken rapper Kanye West. "It’s a little bit of a bullfight, but we take turns, He knows that he’s walking into a room with a person with a strong point of view, and I do too. I listen to what he has to say, take it in, and he listens to what I say and takes it in. We didn’t agree on everything, but he has good ideas."
And the songstress tells the mag that sexism is still a major issue for women in 2015. “Don’t be fooled, not much has changed – certainly not for women. We still live in a very sexist society that wants to limit people. Since I started, I’ve had people giving me a hard time because they didn’t think you could be sexual or have sexuality or sensuality in your work and be intelligent at the same time. For me, the fight has never ended.”
Speaking of her online critics she says that the boom of the Internet and social media platforms is what has changed since the early '90s. "You can hide behind your computer or your phone and say whatever you want — you're not known. Could you say it to my face? Would you say it to my face? I doubt it."
The May issue of Cosmopolitan features four different covers of Madonna, and will be available on stands April 14.
