Chanel pays tribute to its Parisian roots during the Metiers d'Art show

Chanel made its return to Paris for its 2019-2020 Metiers d'art show.

Titled '31 Rue Cambon' the annual show took place on December 4 due to the national strike against plans to reform the French pension system by the unions).

Featuring glamorous decor for which Virginie Viard collaborated with Oscar-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola (who recently made a short documentary about Chanel), the Grand Palais was transformed into a room inspired by Coco Chanel's personal apartment, including chandeliers and a gigantic copy of the elegant staircase emblematic of the Art Deco staircase at 31 Rue Cambon.

Models including Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, and the Dutch Chanel favorites Kiki Willems, Felice Noordhoff, Marjan Jonkman, and Luna Bijl made their way onto the carpeted runway modeling the iconic designs with a modern twist and festive make-up looks.

Viard journeyed back through the archives to show legendary designs including lots of tweed, suit suits, layers of chains and pearls and camellias (the flowers that symbolize Chanel). Overall the show was an ode to the iconic boutique and headquarters of the fashion house.
