British luxury fashion house Burberry has unveiled a Lunar New Year Capsule in collaboration with renowned Chinese artist Qian Lihuai.
Embodying themes of love, care and support which are central to the Year of the Snake, the capsule comprises of outerwear, a trench dress, jersey separates, a puffer jacket and seasonal check scarf. Accessories include scarves made in silk or cashmere, a leather wallet, hats and a bag charm. Since red is symbolic of luck and prosperity in Chinese culture, to honor the new year, a seasonal iteration of the Burberry Check, as well as a B snake motif has been introduced.
Qian is known for being one of the most influential bamboo-weaving artists in China. Hailing from a family with a rich history in bamboo weaving, he brings a contemporary nuance to the cherished, ancient craft. For the collection he has crafted nine bamboo art sculptures and conceptually inspired the store windows of key flagships in China.
'I've always been drawn to Burberry's signature patterns, and it struck me how the textures and colors have an extraordinary resemblance to the intricate designs found in bamboo weaving. It feels like a natural connection,' Qian Lihuai said in a statement.
'The Year of the Snake is a new beginning - a moment to open a fresh chapter. For me, the best part of this time of year is gathering with loved ones, sharing good food and conversation, and soaking in the festive warmth. Shooting Burberry's campaign gave me a similar sense of connection, especially collaborating with photographer Mr. Walter [Walter Pfeiffer] and the intricate bamboo art installations by artist Qian Lihuai. Creating unique festive memories with Burberry was an absolute joy!,' said Brand Ambassador Zhang Jingyi.
The launch of the collection is supported by a campaign starring actor and Brand Ambassador Zhang Jingyi and lensed by photographer Walter Pfeiffer.
