Zara, the flagship brand of the world's largest fashion retailer Inditex SA, opened its largest store in India in Mumbai on Thusday.
Located in the 111 year old heritage Ismail Building behind Flora Fountain, the store spans a total area of 51,300 sq ft. With a five-year rental agreement, Zara will pay a whopping 30 crores or 4.6 Million per year. Restoration took place over a period of two years with a team of Indian architects working closely with Zara's in-house architectural team. Following its opening, the new look of the building has become a attraction point.
Jesus Echevarria, chief communications officer, Inditex who was present at the lauch event said the company is also gearing up for the launch of its online store in India by the end of this year. 'We will be retailing online through our own page by the end of this year. It will be a fully integrated store and online model'.
Inditex has been in India since 2010 through a joint venture with the Tata Group, and operates 22 stores in the country (20 Zara and two Massimo Dutti stores). With India being one of the rapidly expanding luxury markets in the world, the Spanish retailer intends to continue with its strategy of opening two stores a year.
