Italian luxury fashion house Valentino has collaborated with Parisian Fabric retailer Tissu Market on a new upcycling initiative.
Aptly called 'Valentino Sleeping Stock' the partnership aims to promote the creative and responsible reuse of its leftover textiles from the Haute Couture and Pret-a-porter collections that are kept in its archives.
Valentino's 'sleeping' stock of chiffon, taffeta, satin, crepe de chine with a floral print, silk georgette and guipure lace will be available to private individuals through close contacts that Tissumarket has with professionals in the opera, theatre, cinema and fashion design scene. Proceeds from the sales of fabrics will be donated to Bottega dell'Arte di Valentino, a training program for the atelier.
'A deep, personal and shared conviction lies at the origins of this initiative: the importance of upcycling as a driving force towards the change we aim to establish in the fashion industry. The pursuit of excellence, inclusivity and commitment through the creative process are some of the chore values that we share and will guide the next steps of this unique partnership,' said Frank Lellouche, Founder of Tissu Market.
Since 2021, the partnership between Valentino and Tissu Market has unfurled about 22,000 meters of textiles avoiding the emission of about 265t of CO2e that would have been generated for the production of new fabrics. Thus the initiative creates a springboard for creativity and sustainability whose purpose is to transmit the tailoring savoir-faire of the label to future generations.
