Stockholm Fashion Week has been canceled.
The fashion event was due to be held next month between 27 to 29 August where the new collections of Scandinavian brands would be presented. The Swedish Fashion Council announced that due to concerns about the negative impact of the event on the environment and sustainability it was called off.
According to the organization, the Swedish fashion industry is growing fast and the fashion week needs a new concept and the traditional format must be changed to meet sustainability requirements. 'Stepping away from the conventional fashion week model has been a difficult, but much considered, decision,' said Jennie Rosen, CEO of the Swedish Fashion Council. 'We need to put the past to rest and to stimulate the development of a platform that is relevant for today's fashion industry and support brands in their development of next-generation fashion experiences. By doing this we can adapt to new demands, reach sustainability goals and be able to set new standards for fashion.'
The Swedish Fashion Council will announce new plans and strategy later this year that will support brands in developing their next sustainable steps.
