Continuing with its commitment to diversity and inclusion Nike has launched a new swimwear collection designed for athletes who wear a hijab.
Titled Nike Victory Swim Collection it consists of four pieces: a full-body swimsuit, a swimming hijab, a tunic top and leggings in black and navy. Each item is made of a light and quick-drying material and the swimsuit and top both have a built-in sports bra. The full coverage bathing suit is also made of material that protects against harmful UV radiation.
Inspiration for the collection began with athletes' passionate responses to the Nike Pro Hijab which was launched in 2017 and Nike designers' determination to continue innovating for athletes of all backgrounds, body types, abilities and aspirations. Another source of inspiration was from athletes such as Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari the first in her sport to don the hijab in competition.
'The more we listened, the more possibility we saw to serve female athletes in new dimensions,' said Martha Moore, Nike Creative Director, VP.
'As we continue broadening our vision for innovation, we're excited to inspire more women to see themselves in sport by thinking creatively and designing inclusively. To us, Nike Victory Swim Collection shows the power of innovation to invite all women to discover the joy of sport.'
The Nike Victory Swim collection is available from 1 February 2020 through selected Nike stores globally and on nike.com.
