Nicolas Ghesquiere to continue at Louis Vuitton

Earlier this week, Louis Vuitton announced that French designer Nicolas Ghesquiere will continue as creative director of the French fashion house. His renewal will begin imminently, with the 2019 Cruise show in Saint Paul de Vence.

Ghesquiere took over from Marc Jacobs in September 2013 as creative director of Louis Vuitton's women's line. Over the last four years and seven months, the fashion house has been on the rise and speaks of 'unprecedented' growth in all womenswear categories.

'I am very happy to continue on this journey alongside Nicolas at Louis Vuitton. Nicolas brought a contemporary creativity to women's fashion that brought our brand to new levels. His vision and talent place him among the greatest designers of our time,' LV boss Bernard Arnault said in an official press release.

'I am thrilled to write the next chapter of the collaboration I began with Louis Vuitton almost five years ago. Finding the perfect balance between an incredible heritage and a constant goal to innovate has always been a fundamental part of my work. This equilibrium is also a core part of the House's history and I am looking forward to continue developing the design themes that we have laid out over the past few years. I am deeply indebted to Bernard Arnault for the trust he has placed in me, as well as to Michael Burke and Delphine Arnault for their unrelenting support all throughout this journey,' Ghesquiere declared.

'I am excited to continue to work with Nicolas and the energy he brings to Louis Vuitton. He established a strong, audacious vocabulary at Louis Vuitton, which combined our House's spirit with his own sensibility. I am particularly proud of our realizations and look forward to what the next few years will bring,' Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke, added.

At a time when designers switch fashion houses, the support and faith of a brand in its designer, and the confidence of a designer in the fashion house is a scarce commodity. Perhaps other creative directors and fashion houses can follow Louis Vuitton and Nicolas Ghesquiere's example of a long-term strategy.
