H&M has teamed up with 1960s designer Richard Allan to launch an exclusive collection.
Allan founded his eponymous brand in 1962 and quickly gained admiration from designers such as Schiaparelli and Yves Saint Laurent. His Silk scarves, in particular, became a runaway hit and in the first year alone, 50,000 scarves were sold in iconic stores such as Harrods, Liberty and Fortnum & Mason. However, despite the brand's popularity, Allan sold his company in 1989, and many of his designs were lost. His daughter Cate breathed new life into the brand in 2014, resulting in availability of the scarves once again today.
The new collection from H&M which was designed by an H&M in-house team is a creative re-imagining of Allan's print designs and color and serves as as a tribute to the designer. It will include stylish dresses, blouses, skirts, shirts, trousers and, scarves consisting of long silhouettes, high necks, wide sleeves and silk fabrics that carry a touch of the swinging Sixties London.
'We're absolutely elated to be collaborating with one of the most statement-making print designers from this time,' Maria Ostblom, head of womenswear design at H&M said.
'By taking these classic vintage prints from scarves and reimagining them in a new context, the pieces from the H&M x Richard Allan collection feel both strong and feminine, yet with a sophisticated touch.'
The 'H&M x Richard Allan' collection will launch on August 22, both online and in selected stores worldwide.
