Christian Louboutin wins lawsuit over red sole trademark

Christian Louboutin has won the case of his trademark dispute with Dutch retailer Van Haren.

After years of legal battle, the French shoe designer scored a victory earlier this week when The Hague District Court rejected Van Haren's bid to have the Benelux trademark registration invalidated. The court further deemed Van Haren to have infringed Louboutin's trademark distinctive red-soled shoes and ordered Van Haren to cease all use of the mark and awarded damages and costs to Louboutin.

In 2012 Van Haren released red-soled high heeled shoes, which Louboutin claimed was causing confusion amongst consumers as to the true origin of the products. Earlier last year the European Court of Justice gave Louboutin all the exclusive rights to the red soles.

Van Haren can no longer sell red-soled high heeled shoes while Louboutin lovers can now get the original Louboutins in the brand's new luxury store in Amsterdam.
