Cartier announces the fellows of the 2021 edition of the Cartier Women's Initiative



The Cartier Women's Initiative has announced the fellows of its 2021 edition.

Selected from 876 applicants hailing from 142 countries 24 fellows have been shortlisted of which eight winners, known as 'laureates' will be awarded. 7 existing Regional Awards and 1 Science & Technology Pioneer Award a new thematic category that aims to support women impact entrepreneurs at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation.

The Regional Awards comprise of 21 talented women impact entrepreneurs from seven regions across the globe: Latin America & the Caribbean, North America, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, East Asia and South Asia & Oceania. Each of the 7 laureates will be awarded USD 100,000 in grant whereas each of the 14 remaining finalists (second and third runner-up for each region) receives USD 30,000 in grant.

On the other hand the Science & Technology Pioneer Award will highlight disruptive solutions built around unique, protected, or hard-to-reproduce technological or scientific advances. The laureate will be awarded USD 100,000 in grant whereas each of the two remaining finalists will receive USD 30,000 in grant.

Since its creation in 2006, the Cartier Awards has grown from attracting 360 to 1200 applications per year. The initiative has accompanied 240 promising women entrepreneurs hailing from 56 different countries and has awarded over 3 million USD to support these businesses.

A joint partnership initiated by Cartier and INSEAD Business School, the annual international entrepreneurship programme aims to drive change by empowering women impact entrepreneurs. The programme is open to women-run and women-owned businesses from any country and sector that aim to have a strong and sustainable social and/or environmental impact.


The eight winners will be announced on May 26th 2021, during a virtual ceremony. This will be preceded by a digital awards week with the theme The Ripple Effect. Held on May 24 and 25 it will feature a wide range of speakers, including Cartier President and CEO Cyrille Vigneron, industry leaders and friends of the Maison.
