Burberry pledges to stop using plastic by 2025

British fashion house Burberry has pledged to eliminate plastic by 2025.

According to a new report published by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation - an organization that helps fashion brands transition to a circular economy, Burberry will ensure that all of its future plastic packaging is either reusable, recyclable or compostable. Further to that, the British company will also launch a program wherein shoppers can recycle their unwanted hangers in a take-back scheme. It will also stop the use of plastic packaging in clothing storage

But that's not at all, the luxury label has stopped the plastic lamination of its shopping bags and has teamed up with Renewable Energy 100, a global initiative made up of more than 100 businesses committed to renewable energy consumption.

With the new initiative, Burberry follows in the footsteps of Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Gucci and Versace who have all adopted synthetic alternatives and support sustainable fashion. The announcement is an additional step which follows on its earlier announcement of banning fur from its collections and the cease of the destruction of unsold garments.
