French luxury fashion house Chanel has named Whitney Peak as the new face of its Coco Mademoiselle fragrance.
The 20-year-old Ugandan-Canadian actress is best known for her role in the Gossip Girl reboot and Hocus Pocus 2. She is the first Black worldwide spokesmodel for a Chanel fragrance and follows on from previous ambassadors Kate Moss and Keira Knightley.
'Whitney Peak's joy, spirit, and energy are contagious. She is the embodiment of today's youth whose curiosity, confidence in life, appetite for experiences and lack of preconceptions echo the temperament of the young Coco Chanel. She is the incarnation of COCO MADEMOISELLE's original personality, a young woman who moves towards her destiny to become who she truly is and wants to be,' Chanel said in a statement.
'Honestly, I never dreamed I'd get the attention of such a reputable House, let alone the pleasure of working with and representing them. I'm looking forward to showing how versatile and timeless Chanel is,' Peak said of her appointment.
Peak has a longstanding relationship with Chanel and was appointed US ambassador of the maison in 2021. In 2022 she appeared in the Ad campaign for its 22 Handbag alongside Margaret Qualley and Lily-Rose Depp.
Chanel's appointment of Peak as the face of Coco Mademoiselle makes sense since it is the brand's 'youthful' fragrance with a warm blend of jasmine, rose, patchouli and vetiver, brightened by vibrant bursts of orange. It is the scent of 'a woman who is both mischievous and provocative, independent and endearing, and who reinvents herself freely'.
The new COCO MADEMOISELLE advertising campaign staring Whitney Peak was lensed by Inex and Vinoodh and will be unveiled in March 2023. Meanwhile check out some previews from the campaign here.
