about

Margarita Escalada and Maite Cuñado founded Yokana in 1986, bringing to costume jewellery and accessories all the charm and colour of the fascination they feel for Asia.

Yokana offers clothes and accessories. The label also has a full range of bags from the oversized and informal to little clutch bags for special occasions. But the star of its collection is its jewellery: handcrafted necklaces, bracelets and ear-rings made from fabric, seeds, wood and rattan.

The face of the brand is singer Rosario Flores, daughter of legendary flamenco artiste Lola Flores, who is actively involved in designing the line that carries her name: Rosario para Yokana.

With a workforce of 30, the company notched up turnover of more than €6 million in 2007. Its head offices are in Madrid. It has three more offices in Barcelona, Vitoria and Lisbon, each with their own showroom.

Despite spectacular growth, Yokana remains a family firm. In Spain, it has two shops in Madrid and four stores run on a franchise agreement, a system it plans to develop further before 2008 ends. It is also on sale at 900 multi-brand retailers all over the country.

Abroad, Yokana has more than 300 points of sale: 200 in Portugal and the rest in countries including France, Italy, Britain, Belgium, Japan, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela and Turkey, etc.).

The Look

Yokanas’ clothes and accessories have a style of its own and an exoticism that marks it out from the rest. Its garments, which range from flowing skirts and loose-fitting shirts to wraparound shawls, use natural materials like linen knit, silk and wool in plain colours or with ethnic and floral prints, in a perfect combination of tradition with modernity.
