Founded in 2013 by Carsten Holm, a shoemaker with a long-standing career in the shoe industry, Woden is a testament to his belief in the power of nature, Scandinavian design tradition, and the right sneaker DNA. These elements, combined with high quality at an affordable price, form the core approach of the brand. Today, this approach is embodied in the phrase "Scandinavian Simplicity"​​.

Woden is more than just a sneaker brand. It respects the environment and its surroundings and operates based on a sustainable approach: reduce, reuse, recycle. The brand continuously strives to push the boundaries of shoe construction with a focus on a more eco-friendly footprint. This commitment to sustainability is reflected in the brand's use of fish leather as a key material, replacing a significant portion of synthetic materials. In addition, at least 10% of recycled rubber is used in the outsoles, and eco-friendly cork insoles are included in every pair of shoes​.

Every Woden sneaker is comprised of more than 115 components from various production sites. The majority of Woden sneakers are produced in Vietnam, where the brand has its own quality control inspectors as part of its production line. Woden holds its employees in high regard, adhering to the respective regulations regarding payment, conditions, and requirements of working conditions where it operates. The brand also manufactures the Woden HIE line in Portugal, known for its strong profile in the production of high-quality leather shoes. The HIE stands for "Handmade in Europe," and Woden is proud to carry this commitment to quality in its DNA. In Portugal, Woden works with a local partner who has been producing for the brand since 2013.
