Tofvel is a company deeply committed to sustainable and socially responsible manufacturing. They specialize in crafting hand-felted slippers in Nepal, with a conscious focus on people, animals, and the environment. The product range isn't extensive, but rather focuses on a few basic models for men, women, and children, all available in different colors.
Each Tofvel slipper is handcrafted in a small workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal. Almost the entire production process is done by hand, utilizing only a dryer and a sewing machine. This operation aligns with the principles of fair trade, ensuring good working conditions for the employees and fair wages. In addition, the company provides childcare and contributes to a fund for the children of the employees to support their education.
Tofvel's design philosophy is straightforward and easily identifiable, focused solely on foot shape for optimal comfort. The slippers' simplicity embodies a perfect blend of style and comfort.
Tofvel's production process embodies their commitment to sustainability. The wool felt is made from 100% pure wool from free-roaming sheep. It is washed and felted without the use of chemicals. The soles are made of undyed and 100% vegetable-tanned leather or rubber, of which 10% is recycled. The shoes are assembled using a solvent-free, natural latex-based adhesive. Any leftover wool felt is collected and reused for their special edition Lungta models, ensuring no material is wasted.
Tofvel slippers are designed for longevity. They are wet-felted, then shrink during the drying process around the last, which helps the slippers retain their shape and last longer. The sole made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather is suitable for indoor use, while the partially recycled rubber sole can be used both indoors and outdoors. To ensure quality in terms of abrasion resistance and elasticity, not 100% recycled rubber is used, resulting in a durable sole that contributes to the product's longevity.
