JA Apparel Corp, which owns the Joseph Abboud brand name, was founded in 1987, and the menswear label has since grown into a $150 million worldwide wholesaler, retailer, and licensor of men�s clothing, accessories, and home furnishings. Abboud launched a home ware line in 2001 that retails at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Lebanese Abboud was the first designer to win the CFDA award as Best Menswear Designer two years in a row. He sold the company in spring 2005 and left to pursue other interests after creative differences with Chief Executive Marty Staff, a larger-than-life apparel executive who previously worked for Hugo Boss. The two met while working together at Polo Ralph Lauren.
