Hiltl, a renowned trouser manufacturer, was founded in 1955 by master tailor Fritz Hiltl in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany. With a humble start, his passion for craftsmanship and innovative drive set the stage for Hiltl's emphasis on quality and authenticity in the years to come. The company produced just 20 pairs of trousers daily during its nascent stage, focusing on crafting each pair as if it were a tailor-made masterpiece.
Hiltl showcased its first trouser collection at the Cologne Men's Fashion Week in 1958, impressing the industry with the outstanding quality of their products. This early success established Hiltl trousers as a symbol of premium quality in the market.
To meet the increasing demand, Fritz Hiltl opened the region's most modern factory building in 1968 in Asamstraße, Sulzbach-Rosenberg. By 1980, Hiltl had 370 employees and was producing 2,000 trousers daily. The trousers were distributed in various countries including Germany, Holland, Belgium, England, France, Austria, and Switzerland. With the opening of borders in 1989 and a general economic upswing, demand for Hiltl trousers increased across Germany and Europe.
After the passing of Fritz Hiltl, his wife Hedwig Hiltl took over the leadership of the company in 1994. Under her guidance, the company continued to thrive and expand. The turn of the millennium in 2000 saw Hiltl successfully breaking into the American market, branding themselves as "The ultimate pair of trousers."
On its 50th anniversary in 2005, Hiltl reaffirmed its commitment to not being the biggest, but the best in the industry, adhering strictly to Fritz Hiltl's original philosophy. By this time, Hiltl trousers were worn worldwide for both business and leisure.
By its 60th anniversary in 2015, Hiltl had firmly established itself as a premium brand for quality-conscious, design-interested, and trend-savvy men. Annually, the company was shipping over half a million trousers to more than 40 countries around the globe.
In 2016, Hiltl was acquired by Nord Holding, which aimed to preserve and build upon Hiltl's legacy. Hiltl's key values have always been uncompromising quality, authenticity, sustainability, and functionality. The company prides itself on sourcing and manufacturing within Europe and creating trousers that provide joy for many years to their owners, signifying their commitment to sustainability. The high fashion grade of Hiltl's trousers supports the individuality of men, without being overwhelming, while functionality remains a crucial part of Hiltl's DNA.
