The history of the French shoe brand, Robert Clergerie, began in 1895 when Joseph Fenestrier, son of a shop owner based in Romans, bought a small shoe factory located at rue Jacquemart.
In 1948 a prestigious shop opened on 6 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honor�.
Mister Fenestrier died in 1961 and the company was brought back in 1978 by Robert Clergerie.
In 1981 the brand Robert Clergerie�s was launched and a first store opened in Paris, 5 Rue Du Cherche-Midi.
In 1983, a Joseph Fenestrier store opened in Paris, 6th Arrondissement.
The first shop opened in Tokyo in 1986, followed by a further shop in New York one year later.
In 1988 stores opened in Madrid and Brussels.
In 1989 the first shop opened in London followed by a second one in 1999 at Draycott Avenue.
In 1994 a store opened in Los Angeles.
In 1996 Robert Clergerie decided to retire and sell his shares to financial investors.
In December 2004 Robert Clergerie bought back the company that carries his name and participated again in the development of the collections.
In July 2012 Roland Mouret was named the new creative director of the footwear brand.
