Founded by Jerome Dahan, Citizens of Humanity designs and globally distributes seasonal denim and fashion collections for women and men, including a women’s knit collection. Dahan was previously head of design for Lucky Brand, and one of the co-founders of 7 For All Mankind. In 2003, Dahan launched Citizens of Humanity. It is claimed by some that a portion of the proceeds are given to charity.

Citizens of Humanity is featured in boutiques and department stores across the United States and in Canada. Internationally, Citizens is sold in over 35 countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Russia, Spain, Scandinavia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

In 2006, Berkshire Partners, a leading private equity firm based in Boston, Massachusetts, acquired equity in Citizens of Humanity. In September 2007, Citizens of Humanity named Adriano Goldschmied as a partner, and acquired the GoldSign denim label. The company headquarters is in Huntington Park, California.
