about
Angel Estrada label covers luxurious women's apparel collections and top-notch sculptural fashion jewelry, highlighted at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus; films and advertising.
Eponymous Angel Estrada fashion clothing label was started in the middle of 80s by the student of arts at School of Design, New York, when Angel Estrada occasionally started designing clothes for his sister Virginia Estrada, just for fun. Two years after, in 1985 his designs hit the catwalks. Designers description of his clothes was simple in silhouete but bold in details with the zipper fastening as the featured detail of the garments.
In New York, Mr. Estrada's evening clothes are sold only at Bergdorf Goodman, at prices ranging from $800 to $2,000 an outfit. But he was seeking to enter the fashion mainstream by acquiring a backer for a ready-to-wear line.
When Angel Estrada, 31-year-old died on this day in 1989, his sister Virginia, a sculptor and jewelry designer who had played a designing role in several of his collections, completely took over his business, assumed the design responsibilities and continued releasing collections under the well-known brand name, Angel Estrada. But the business survived some changes since that time.
"Everything had to be rethought when Angel died," Ms. Estrada said. The company, which had focused on custom-made evening dresses, stepped in producing a sportswear line. It had also entered a licensing arrangement with a Japanese company, Kindwear, to make clothing in Japan. And the even greater accent was alloted to jewelry line, basic creative purview of new senior designer.
