about
The world was introduced to Agatha Ruiz de la Pradas very first collection back in 1981 and the Spanish baroness also launched her first studio-store in the early 80s, in Madrid.
It was in 1986 that Agathas first collective show took place, in France. In the same year, the former Barcelona Fashion Institute student also started designing various accessories, such as espadrilles and tights.
She went on to take part in the Madrid fashion week Pasarela Cibeles in 1988, for the first time ever, and also showcased her collection at Milans Fashion Show that year.
Following this early success, the 12th Marquise of Castelldosrius went on to license her trademark, starting from 1992. From then on, manufacturers were authorized to produce, distribute, market and sell products bearing the Agatha Ruiz de la Prada trademark in Spain and abroadboth within the European Union and across the rest of the world. Networks of local representatives sell her products.
Agatha entered a collaboration agreement with El Corte Ingls department stores in 1995, allowing the retail outlets to sell a collection of her childrens wear. This was followed up by further ranges of womenswear, fashion jewellery, tablecloths and many other colourful products.
Her first men and women's sleepwear range was presented in 1997, at the Gaudi fashion show. She also launched her second perfume and created a ceramics collection for Pamesa, as well as a line of chairs for Amat 3. The Spaniard also took part in a Washington fashion show.
The following year, Agatha presented the fashion show entitled Canarias, Paraso de las Flores (The Canaries, the Flower Paradise) at the Louvre's Carrousel, as well as her wall tile bride's dress at the VIAM (Valencia Institute of Modern Art). She continued to make a splash in interior decorating and also created her first stationery, leather goods and bag collections.
The Madrid-born designer has attended all editions of Pitti Imagine Bimbo, in Florence, since 2000. Here, she is the sole non-Italian designer to showcase her creations on the catwalk, also presenting her childrens collections at the event.
In 2001 Agatha started designing new product lines for the children's market, such as babycare and layette items, fancy dress and toys.
She revealed her first collections of baby clothes and footwear, women's and girl's footwear and aromatic candles in the following year.
Also in 2002, Agatha unveiled her first ever collections of menswear, presenting them at the Gaud Fashion Show in Barcelona. To this day, the designer continues to commercialize new and original product lines, such as paddle rackets, sticking plaster, pet accessories, fans and gold and silver articles.
Agatha has stores in Porto, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and Paris and her products are now also for sale in Latin America and Korea. Her New York store is temporarily closed at present, but is scheduled to re-open shortly.
