Legendary Photographer
Steven Meisel is rumored to be leaving Vogue Italia.
For the first time since 1988 the prolific lensman has not shot the latest Vogue Italia cover. For its June 2015 issue the glossy revealed multiple covers which were shot by by four different photographers, Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, Mert & Marcus, and Craig McDean.
There has been speculation that Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani and Meisel have been facing creative differences which has prompted Meisel to part ways after 27 years of collaboration. Meisel recently shot American Vogue's Met Gala China: Through The Looking Glass special edition, starring model Sun and also W Magazine's June/July 2015 cover, which features Jane Fonda.
Meisel became a fashion illustrator for Women's Wear Daily before being tapped by Vogue to photograph the collections. Since then he has produced hundreds of magazine editorials (including every Vogue Italia cover since 1988) and countless ad campaigns. While it remains to be seen if Meisel will shoot next month's cover, his departure from the magazine which if true would indeed be the end of an era.
